The Birthplace of La Costa Brava Name
An italian or greek location? For those that travelled in Italy on the Amalfi Coast or Sardinia, to Crete in Greece or any other greek island, this small catalan port – Port de Ses Orats – brings up flashbacks of those past journeys.
Some might say it looks like Italy, some might say it looks like Greece. Perhaps, in the end, it’s the Mediteraneean Sea that binds them all with its familiar landscapes, coastlines and cultures.
Despite the resemblance with those distant lands this place has its own story to tell, one deeply connected to the iconic catalonian coast: it is here where the rocky coastline was baptized, a hundred years ago, with the well-known name of Costa Brava. It happened during a conversation of a few local politicians and writers that met in a residence once called Finca El Paradís which was overlooking this bay. Ironically, the birthplace of an iconic name went into anonimity as time went on.
