Cala S’Alguer: A Cultural Asset of Costa Brava
Cala S’Alguer is a redecorated layer over the traditional Costa Brava. The foundation stone was laid here in the sixteenth century when a fishermen community chose this place to settle down. But what was once a fishing district today is the perfect holiday retreat for the locals that own these comfy and colorful houses.
The location is very well preserved and in 2004 it was declared a cultural asset of national interest by the regional government of Catalonia.
It benefits of a bar-restaurant and a parking nearby but the quest to find it should be for its historical meaning, its architecture – a commemoration of the sixteenth century – its serenity and its surroundings. It is impossible, once you get here, to not try to imagine the life of the people who went out to sea every day…
